Selar launches ₦5 million tuition support project to aid 50 Nigerian tertiary students
The project is committed to supporting 50 final-year students by granting each of them ₦100,000.
Africa's largest creator platform, Selar, is excited to announce the launch of its school tuition support project tagged 'Selar Tuition Fund,' dedicated to supporting students in Nigerian tertiary institutions.
Nigeria is currently facing one of its most challenging economic periods in recent history, resulting in a significant increase in the cost of living. This has raised concerns about the potential consequences for the socioeconomic development of the country's youth. The cost of education has been particularly affected, with a significant rise in tuition fees at tertiary institutions across the nation, especially within public universities. Several federal universities have recently announced over 200% hikes in registration and tuition fees for students.
The primary objective of the “Selar Tuition Fund'' is to alleviate the financial burden on Nigerian students, enabling them to concentrate on their academic excellence and career development. This initiative also shows Selar’s commitment to contributing to the achievement of Nigeria's Sustainable Development Goal for education which is to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
The project will be an annual initiative, and this long-term commitment demonstrates the company's dedication to promoting access to education in Nigeria.
In its inaugural year, the “Selar Tuition Fund” aims to provide financial aid to final-year students, helping them overcome the escalating cost of education and complete their studies. The project is committed to supporting 50 final-year students by granting each of them ₦100,000.
According to Founder/CEO Selar, “Creators monetizing their knowledge is the reason Selar exists. While a lot of the knowledge monetized today might be informal, the importance of formal education for any individual cannot be overstated. For many, education is their gateway to accessing a whole new world that would’ve been unattainable, and that’s why this fund is so important to us. Every child deserves quality education and we’re so happy to make our little contribution to this. Can’t wait to see the amazing students selected this year”.
In addition to providing financial assistance, Selar is committed to offering internship opportunities to the recipients, further enhancing their educational experience and nurturing their career growth.
