15 African startups to participate in the Google for Startups Accelerator Class 7

Starting this month, Google has announced that 15 African startups will be part of Class 7 of the Google for Startups Accelerator.

Launched in 2018, the accelerator is A three-month virtual accelerator program for high potential Seed to Series A tech startups based in Africa. It's designed to bring the best of Google's programs, products, people and technology to startups that leverage machine learning and AI in their company today or plan to in the future.

In addition to mentorship and technical project support, the Accelerator also includes deep dives and workshops focused on product design, customer acquisition and leadership development for founders, specialized training, media opportunities and access to Google’s network of engineers and experts.

Since its launch, Google for Startup Accelerator Africa has supported 82 startups from 17 African countries, and they have collectively raised $112 million and created 2800 direct jobs.

Some of the Accelerator's notable alumni includes, Thrive Agric, Kudi, Pezesha, OkadaBooks, Piggyvest, OkHi, 54gene, Curacel, Tix.Africa, Stears, Tendo and Ndovu.

The Class 7 of the accelerator is made up of seven countries from Africa with Coté d’Ivoire making its debut at the programme. Nigerian startups topped the list with five startups. Kenya and South Africa have three startups represented. Meanwhile, Egypt, Uganda and Tanzania have one each.

Per sector, the class is quite diverse with startups across healthtech, mobility, utility, AI, mixed reality, logistics, data management, e-commerce and digital identity.

  8. Multiplied (South Africa): Multiplied offers data-driven design at scale through infinite personalized content for marketing.
  9. Nulitics (South Africa): Nulitics is a specialist Mixed Reality (XR) software development and system integrator with a focus on XR wearable technology
  10. Ridelink (Uganda): Ridelink makes cargo mobility affordable and accessible for Small businesses at the tap of a button.
  11. SmartClass (Tanzania): SmartClass is a skill-learning network that enables youth to learn from their peers
  12. Sukhiba (Kenya): Sukhiba is a decentralized community-based commerce platform.

  14. The Marking App (South Africa): The Marking App provides a data free application that automatically marks handwritten school assessments while also automating school administration.
