Flutterwave named Pioneer on TIME's '100 Most Influential Companies'

Flutterwave has been listed as a Pioneer by TIME on its newly released 100 Most Influential Companies.

The list contained companies making a remarkable impact across the globe. Popular tech companies like Apple, Twitter, Zoom, Netflix, Spotify, and Stripe all made the list. On the home front, Flutterwave is the only African and Nigerian startup on the list.

According to TIME, they solicited nominations across sectors, a global network of editors and correspondents, and industry experts. During the selection process, they tried to answer just one question ‘Which companies are shaping our future?’

TIME also evaluated the nominated companies on the grounds of relevance, impact, innovation, leadership, ambition, and success. The companies that ticked the boxes got released as the ‘100 Most Influential Companies.’

“From the tech startup engineering a smarter way to recycle to the cryptocurrency firm reimagining the future of money to the pharma titans creating the vaccines of tomorrow (and today). Together, these businesses—and the leaders who steer them—are helping to chart an essential path forward,” excerpt from TIME’s website.

Flutterwave is one such company. The Nigerian fintech startup recently attained unicorn status after it raised $170 million in Series C funding. The company made the TIME list for its innovative efforts to power SME’s during the pandemic.

According to the list, “The co-founder and CEO of Nigeria’s Flutterwave, Olugbenga Agboola, compares the infrastructure of digital transactions across nations and platforms (think credit cards, debit payments and digital wallets) to plumbing: you don’t want to think about it, you just want it to work.

When pandemic lockdown hit brick-and-mortar businesses in Africa, the digital-payment service was able to rapidly set up digital storefronts for 20,000 customers, throwing them a lifeline. Agboola called the free campaign ‘keeping the lights on’.

TIME's list was categorized into five; Pioneers, Leaders, Innovators, Titans, and Disruptors.
