Nigerian logistics startup, Fez Delivery has launched electric bikes, dubbed FEZ ECO, as part of its efforts to ensure eco-friendly last-mile delivery in Africa, starting with Nigeria.

"This monumental step not only aligns with our vision for a cleaner, greener future but also represents a milestone in our ongoing efforts to enhance the efficiency and reliability of our services," says Seun Alley, co-founder and CEO of Fez Delivery. "As we navigate toward a more sustainable tomorrow, we look forward to serving you with the same dedication and now with a greener footprint. Together, we're shaping a better future, one electric mile at a time."

According to Statista, the projected revenue for Nigeria's e-commerce market in 2023 is estimated to reach $6.7 million, emphasising the crucial necessity for efficient delivery services to cater to this surging demand. As the e-commerce industry continues to expand, the increasing demand for last-mile delivery services underscores the importance of service providers offering both cost-effective and environmentally friendly options.

In March, Fez Delivery raised a $1 million seed fund in a round led by Ventures Platform.

In August, a report from Bendada.com highlighted that the escalating fuel prices in Nigeria had caused ride-hailing and delivery costs to surge, resulting in a decline in customer usage.

"Our company is grounded on building resilience in uncertain times, and it’s our mission to bring efficiency to the logistics industry by leveraging technology," according to Alley.

The report also pointed out that logistics startups can introduce electric vehicles for deliveries as an alternative to mitigate price increases. However, a significant obstacle to this transition will be the inconsistent power supply in the country, necessitating the continued reliance on fuel-powered generators.

Per a statement shared with Bendada.com, the Techstars-backed Nigerian logistics startup emphasised cost savings as one of the advantages of FEZ ECO. In addition to its eco-friendly zero-emission characteristic, these bikes will also enhance manoeuvrability in congested urban traffic, leading to quicker deliveries. Furthermore, they will offer smart tracking and monitoring of deliveries, contributing to heightened transparency and security.

"We have been partners with Fez Delivery for years, and their commitment to innovation and quality has always impressed us. Their previous products transformed our business, setting new standards for excellence. We are confident that the electric bikes will be another game-changer. We can't wait to see what they have in store, and we're excited to continue our successful journey together," says Racheal Adetunji, CEO, ThriftWithRay.
